Hi, I’m Amber Hathaway (she/her), a horror and dark fiction writer from central Maine. I'm the author of the Little White Flowers series as well as a handful of shorter fiction works. If you like eerie and unnerving tales featuring a motley cast of social misfits, you've come to the right place.

 

I’ve been a fan of the macabre since childhood. During those early years, I devoured every Goosebumps and Fear Street book I could get my hands on, watched and rewatched Stephen King movies, and tormented my sister and friends with stories about haunted ice cream trucks, spectral dogs, and cursed burial grounds. I wrote my first solo paranormal tale at eight and went on to fill numerous notebooks and hard drives with stories and story fragments involving ghosts, vampires, cults, and other horror staples. 

 

As an undiagnosed autistic child and young adult, writing served as my escape from a world that didn't understand me as well as a place to explore humanity's darkness and what it means to be Other. The experience of Otherness remains a common theme in my writing to this day.

 

I took some time away from my fiction writing to earn a few degrees, including a PhD in Physics from the University of Maine. In 2022, after working briefly as a university physics instructor, I transitioned to writing full-time. Since then, I have authored several short stories, many of which have been published in various anthologies. My main writing focus for the past few years, though, has been my Little White Flowers series. The first book, Little White Flowers, was released on July 1st, 2025 and the second book, Hallowed Deadly Seeds, is slated for release on June 30th, 2026.

When I'm not writing or reading horror, you may find me crafting Halloween props, putting together costumes and cosplays, or gallivanting around my neighborhood in search of Pokémon or butterflies. I live with my equally eccentric partner, Brian Toner.
