March is Women in Horror Month, a much-needed celebration of women's contributions to the horror genre. Despite the historical association between horror and masculinity, women have played a pivotal role in the genre from the outset. (If you want to learn more about women's contributions to horror and speculative fiction, I highly recommend the book Monster, She Wrote by Lisa Kröger and Melanie R. Anderson.) There are some fantastic events going on online this month to uplift women in horror. In particular, Timber Ghost Press is spotlighting women in horror, and I am honored to be one of the featured authors. I'm including a brief excerpt below, but make sure to head over to Timber Ghost Press's blog to read the full interview.

Interview excerpt:

What advice would you give to the next generation of women coming into the horror genre?

We have this unfortunate societal idea that horror is largely a man's domain. This has shifted a bit in recent years, but the truth is, women have been writing horror basically since the genre's inception. We just haven't gotten as much recognition. And I think this lack of recognition can be very isolating and can make people question whether they should even be here. So I would say, know that you do belong here and that your words matter. Don't be afraid to be loud, to take up space. Find other women who are writing cool books, and let's lift each other up. It's much harder for history to forget us if we write the narrative.

A huge thank you to Timber Ghost Press for spotlighting women in horror and for including me! Be sure to check out their other interviews as well. Maybe you'll find a new book or two to add to your TBR.

Who are some of your favorite women in horror? I'd love to hear in the comments!
